The bound histories of North Florida and South Carolina

Any town's history is always tied to its people, and there are many common threads among the people of North Florida towns.
One of those common threads is that many of the settlers from the territorial period and early statehood who lived in North Florida towns such as Monticello, Madison, Perry, Quincy, etc., migrated from South Carolina, more specifically, Charleston, S.C. Birth records indicate that, in 1850, 4,439 current residents of Florida had been born in South Carolina. That was the second-highest number among those born outside Florida, the first being Georgia. That trend continued until 1920 when Alabama took its place. U
