The Arc North Florida welcomed Suwannee County educator Lilly Williams as its new executive director, and she is ready to help the program grow.
“I am excited to be in this position and see the organization grow,” Williams said. Her first day was Monday, Jan. 26.
Williams is a University of Florida graduate, earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She also attended Clemson University, where she earned a master’s degree in human resource development. In addition, Williams also attended Florida Gateway College, where she earned her teaching certification, with a specialization in K– 12 exceptional student education.
For the past nine years, Williams has worked in public schools, helping children with disabilities reach their full potential. Her career began at Lake City Middle School before she transferred to Suwannee High School. She later moved to Suwannee Springcrest Elementary, where she served as a support facilitator, working with students with disabilities and their families.
When Williams saw the opportunity to take the helm at The Arc North Florida, she felt she was qualified for the role, having been an advocate for people with special needs. Not only is it a professional position for her, but a personal one. Her aunt, Maureen, had Down syndrome and, Williams said, would have benefitted from the support of The Arc North Florida. Maureen passed away in March 2025.
“I want to help the organization grow because I feel this is a personal mission for me,” said Williams. “I want all of our local families to be able to receive the help they deserve.”
She is stepping into the position as the organization prepares to launch a new location in Mayo. She said she hopes The Arc North Florida will be able to provide services to the community, including adult day training, programs that focus on building life skills, fostering independence and encouraging community inclusion.
“I am excited for the expansion and hope we can make a difference in Lafayette County,” Williams said.
A date for the opening of the new Mayo location has not yet been announced. Keep an eye on future editions of the Riverbend News for updates as they become available.
