We will continue looking at Francis J. Ross this week.
While Arthur Sykes managed part of the Suwannee Springs property, Ross was busy with other territorial affairs. As we study history, we must always remember the mindsets of the people of the day; we cannot push our “modern” sensibilities upon previous generations, but should look upon them in relation to their times. With that in mind, the following letter was written to the United States Congress on Jan. 28, 1833, and signed by Ross (among others); I find it intriguing:
