Live Oak City Council nixes speed detection cameras

During its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 10,the Live Oak City Council addressed a proposal to bring speed detection cameras to school zones throughout the city in an effort to tackle speeding during school hours. After several concerned citizens voiced their opposition, the Council chose not to move forward with installing the cameras.
One of the first citizens to come forward in opposition was Wayne Hannaka, who said the money collected from fines would go to an outside company versus returning to the community.
