A Valdosta man was charged with second-degree murder following a shooting at the Motel 8 on State Route 6 in Hamilton County, resulting in the death of a female victim. The victim’s body was transported to the Duval County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
According to a report filed by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), on the evening of Wednesday, July 30, deputies received a call regarding a shooting at the Motel 8, in which the female victim was suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies, along with Sheriff Brian Creech, responded to the motel, where a tactical entry was made into one of the rooms. Upon entry, the victim was located, deceased. Deputies also located Jackie Wayne Monk, 40, who was immediately taken into custody without incident and subsequently charged with second-degree murder. Monk was booked into the Hamilton County Jail and is being held on no bond.
The investigation also revealed the victim and Monk knew each other. “Our investigators are working diligently to gather all facts and follow every lead,” Sheriff Creech said in a statement. “This is a tragic incident, and our hearts go out to the victim’s loved ones.”
