Ellie’s Benefit Barrel Race to raise funds for local cowgirl

On Saturday, Aug. 15, in Jasper, Ellie’s Benefit Barrel Race will take place to help a local cowgirl receive the medical treatments she needs to get back in the saddle.

The benefit barrel race will bring together racers, vendors, food and raffles for an evening centered around supporting 12-year-old Ellie Cantey and her recovery. The benefit barrel race will take place at the Hamilton County Rodeo Arena, located at 165 Robin Ave., in Jasper.

The event will feature an exhibition beginning at 6 p.m. and running through 7:30 p.m., with exhibitions costing $5. The leadline event will begin at 8 p.m., with a $5 entry fee and 100% payout. The open barrel race will follow the leadline event.

The open entry fee is $35, while the youth entry fee is $20. The race will also include a $5 processing fee per horse. The event will be a run-or-rollover format. For the barrel race, the payout will be based on the number of riders. A $1,250 payout is listed for 50 riders, while the payout increases to $2,500 with 100 riders. A 70/30 payout will be used.

The benefit will also feature a 70/30 raffle, along with vendors and food throughout the event, giving community members additional ways to participate and support the cause. Organizers are encouraging the community to come out and support its local cowgirl as she works toward receiving the medical care necessary to return to riding.
