Brown refuses to resign as mayor amid allegations of charter violations

A tense meeting on Thursday, June 12, regarding the hiring of White Springs Town Manager Elmon Lee Garner led to Mayor Tonja Brown abruptly walking out of the meeting. During the meeting, Brown claimed her paperwork was incorrect and stated she was not comfortable proceeding with the meeting, slamming her gavel and calling for adjournment without consulting the Council. The rest of the Council refused to adjourn the meeting, which prompted Brown to threaten to sue them if they proceeded. Her actions allegedly violated Robert’s Rules of Order as well as the Town Charter.
