Defining dyes: What are color additives?
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a color additive is any dye, pigment or any other substance that can impart color to a food, drug, or cosmetic or the human body. In recent years, there has been concern about synthetic color additives and their possible effects on children's health and development.
