Will Carpenter Foundation and SHS to host cancer awareness events

Suwannee High School (SHS) athletics and the Will Carpenter Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Foundation are teaming up for the third year in a row to raise awareness and support during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The third annual SHS Swim Team Will Carpenter Memorial Swim-a-Thon will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, at the Billy Jernigan Pool, located at 1301 Walker Ave. S.W., in Live Oak and will continue for 24 hours through Saturday, Sept. 19.

Participants can support the fundraiser by sponsoring a swimmer, making a donation or signing up to swim. Open swim signups will also be available.

The swim-a-thon will include raffles, a silent auction and merchandise, with proceeds supporting the Will Carpenter AYA Cancer Foundation.

Also beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, the foundation will host a community tailgate party at Paul Langford Stadium, located 302 Parshley St. S.W., in Live Oak, before the Bulldogs face off against the Hamilton County High School Trojans in a football matchup.

The community tailgate is open to the public and will include delicious barbeque. Attendees are also encouraged to wear gold during the “Tail Gate Gold Out Game” to show their support of the cause.
