Wildfire fight continues in Lafayette County swampland

A wildfire that began as a 100-acre blaze in southern Lafayette County has since grown into a 2,200-acre firefighting operation deep within the Rawhide Sog and Mallory Swamp Wildlife Management area.
The South Canal Fire was first reported by the Florida Forest Service (FFS) on Monday, May 4, at approximately 100 acres. By the following day, the blaze had expanded to 350 acres, then reached 500 acres that same day.
