Water First North Florida brings hope and concerns to drought-stricken Suwannee River Basin

Jason Futch Reporter2@riverbendnews.org Water First North Florida is an upcoming project aimed at bringing relief to the drought-stricken Suwannee River Basin by pumping water from the St. Johns River. The project is a collaborative effort involving the St. Johns River Water Management District, the Suwannee River Water Management District (SRWMD) and several other organizations and utility districts. According to a press release from the SRWMD, once implemented, the project is expected to return more than 40 million gallons of water per day to the Floridan aquifer system.
