Water First North Florida is an upcoming project aimed at bringing relief to the drought-stricken Suwannee River Basin by pumping water from the St. Johns River. The project is a collaborative effort involving the St. Johns River Water Management District, the Suwannee River Water Management District (SRWMD) and several other organizations and utility districts.
According to a press release from the SRWMD, once implemented, the project is expected to return more than 40 million gallons of water per day to the Floridan aquifer system. By recharging the region’s primary water source, Water First North Florida would help restore spring and river flow
