On Wednesday, April 23, the Hamilton County High School softball team hosted the Jefferson County Tigers for a softball showdown. While the game was a highlight, there was also a special moment before the game began, honoring the two seniors who would be graduating that year. The game started with a tight competition. In the first inning, the Tigers scored six runs, while the Trojans only scored five runs. From that point on, the Trojans stole the game away. They scored 10 runs in the second inning and another six runs in the third inning. After that, no one else was able to make it across home plate, giving the Trojans the victory 21-6. Freshman Destini Cherry was the top scorer of the evening, making it across home plate four different times. Close behind her were Alicia Simmons, Aubrey Shehan and Trinity Billings, who all made it across home plate three times. Ralynn Moody, Brooklyn Carnley and Makenna Wheeler all made it across two times, while Nevaeh Krueger and Brooklyn McCary made it across home plate once. Krueger was the playmaker, batting in a total of four runs. The offensive plays didn't end there; Cherry, Moody, Simmons, Carnley, Shehan, Billings and Wheeler all stole at least one base. On the defensive side of things, Carnley led the charge, completing a total of four outs. The next closest was Moody, who completed two outs. Moody also led from the mound, striking out three batters. The two pitchers, Moody and Kaden Wetherington, only gave up three hits between them and six total bases on balls. Of course, the real highlight of the evening was the honoring of the team's two seniors: McCary and Billings. Each student was given a chance to stand with their family and speak on their plans for the future. Smiles filled the area as the Trojans honored their seniors with a softball victory.
