As Veterans Day approaches, residents from the tri-county area are gearing up to pay their respects to the men and women who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces. Here are the ceremonies and events planned to honor of these brave soldiers.
Lafayette County
Saturday, Nov. 11
Jackson Heights, a Christian country music band based out of Nashville, Tenn., will be taking the stage at Lighthouse Christian Center at 6 p.m. for a free concert. The band's performance promises to be a stirring experience, paying homage to those who have sacrificed so much in the service of their country. Lighthouse Christian Center is located at 772 FL 51, in Mayo.
Hamilton County
Saturday, Nov. 11
A special Veterans ceremony will be held from 11 a.m. to noon during the Sugar Cane Festival in White Springs to honor all who have served. The ceremony will be presented by Hamilton County Veterans Service Officer Jonathan C. Law, Jr. The Sugar Cane Festival will be held outside Suwannee Hardware and Feed, located at 10572 Bridge St., in White Springs.
Suwannee County
Friday, Nov. 10
Santa Fe Professional Solutions is hosting a Veterans Appreciation Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to honor all who served in the military. Free lunches will be provided for Veterans and active duty or reserves military men and women. The eve nt will be held at 27084 83rd Pl., in Branford.
Saturday, Nov. 11
Live Oak's annual Veterans Day parade will take place at 9 a.m. The parade will begin at Suwannee Pineview Elementary and will make its way up to the intersection of US Highway 129 and US Highway 90, where it will make a left at the light.
The parade will be followed by a Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m., at the Live Oak Cemetery, located at 110 Winderweedle St. NW.
After the ceremony, Veterans are invited to join the Live Oak Elk's Lodge #1165 for its annual salute to active and retired military. From noon until the food runs out, all Veterans, active duty or reserves, National Guard and family members are invited to a free meal. The Elk's Lodge is located at 415 E Howard St., in Live Oak.
