The Arc is coming to Mayo - there is no doubt about that. The building is in the final stages of preparation, with decorations and supplies being brought in. On Friday, March 6, the new location opened its doors for an open house, allowing interested residents to tour the facility and sign up to use its services.
The new building is an Adult Day Training facility, offering a wide range of opportunities for adults with disabilities. The facility includes an arts and crafts center where attendees can explore their creativity. There is also a small library for those who enjoy reading, as well as a computer lab where adults can practice computer skills ranging from typing to building a resume.
In the back half of the building, there is a laundry area where participants can practice washing and folding clothes. The facility also includes a special sensory room. The lights are dimmed, and comfortable beanbag chairs, water fountains and sensory toys line the walls. It is designed as a calming space for individuals who may feel overwhelmed or need a quiet place to regroup.
The store portion of the new location isn’t ready to open yet, but it will be soon. Until then, The Arc is ready to welcome those who want to take advantage of its resources. The Arc in Mayo is located at 172 Main St., Suite 188A. To learn more about The Arc, visit thearc.org.
