A tragedy unfolded in Hamilton County on Sunday, July 20, as investigators were called to a drowning incident.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Hamilton County Fire Department, and Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services responded to Pot Springs, located along the Withlacoochee River, in reference to a reported drowning. Tragically, during the recovery, the body of an 18-year-old male was recovered. While next-of-kin have been notified, HCSO has not publicly identified the victim.
The victim's body was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office in Jacksonville, where an autopsy was conducted to officially determine the cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing pending the results of the medical examiners' findings.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family and loved ones at this time," Sheriff Brian Creech said.
