On Friday, May 19, the Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) awarded $15,000 worth of scholarships to outstanding graduates in their coverage area. In total, 10 scholarships were awarded to all-around excellent students who were dependents of co-op members. The scholarships were awarded based on grade point average and the quality of extracurricular, church, community, civic and volunteer activities. On top of all that, students needed to provide a letter of recommendation and an essay on how they planned to continue their education.
“We are pleased to support these young men and women as they continue to prepare for their careers,” said SVEC Board of Trustees President Tyler Putnal. “We congratulate them on their high school achievements and wish them continued success in the future.” The awarded students were Cash Blalock and Jacelle Taylor from Branford High School; Morgan Griffin and Malyiah Marcano from Hamilton County High School; Elisabeth Cook and Taryn Maund from Lafayette High School; and Natalie Dunn and Braxtyn Green from Suwannee High School. Each student was given $1,500 to help pay for tuition.
