On Wednesday, Dec. 21, the Primary youth of the White Springs Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (JCLDS) visited the residents of the Suwannee Valley Nursing Facility. There, they participated in the Adopt-a-Grandparent program, which invites youth to spread the reason for the Christmas season by visiting senior citizens.
The Primary youth visited over 60 residents and gifted them small gift bags containing socks, lotion and a few other essentials. The residents were pleased to have visitors and to see the smiles of the children who were there. In visiting the residents, the youth received the greatest gift of all: lessons of what Christmas is truly about, the birth of Jesus Christ and everything he exemplified, and not only share the gospel with others but live by his gospel.
Along with gift bags, the youth took the time to visit and get to know a few residents, even singing for them. The residents were grateful for the gift bags, the songs and the time the youth spent with them. In comparison, the children were thankful for the more important lesson they learned. "To be here today and visit with everyone made me feel good,” said 10-year-old Chloe Raines. “Today taught me that Christmas is more than getting and giving gifts; it's about spending time with one another and sharing the gospel with others."
