The Suwannee High School (SHS) wrestling team had a big day on Thursday, Jan. 16, as three other teams traveled to Live Oak for a showdown to determine who would have a shot at the state championship. The Bulldogs sported a stellar team featuring senior Justin Contreras, junior Holden Corbin, sophomore Logan Dear, freshman Jose Garcia, freshman Jonathan Gonzalez, junior Jayden James, senior Torynn Johns, senior Eli Jolicouer, sophomore Dalton Lindblade, sophomore Brenton Middleton, sophomore Rylan Milian, freshman Kameron Miller, freshman Zane Miller, junior Tyler Phinney, junior Landon Slater, sophomore Nasir Smith, senior Clay Starling, senior Author Vanderpool and senior Marshall White. The competition started with the Bulldogs dominating the bracket. They first took on the North Bay Haven Buccaneers. They took the first fight with ease, dominating the competition with a team score of 84-0. Meanwhile, in the lower bracket, the Bay High Tornadoes faced off against the Wakulla High War Eagles. The War Eagles took the match 47-29, leading to a fierce endgame between them and the Bulldogs. Once again, Suwannee showed its proficiency and cunning strategy as a team. They took first place with a score of 55-15, securing first place in the regional tournament.
