Suwannee County Farm Bureau recognizes speech contest winners

The Suwannee County Farm Bureau (SCFB) recently hosted its annual Youth Speech Contest, allowing local students to demonstrate their knowledge of agriculture and public speaking skills.

Participants competed in two divisions, Intermediate (ages 11 to 13) and Senior (ages 14 to 18). They addressed the topic: “What are some of the proactive, collaborative steps that farmers, ranchers, local communities and organizations, like Farm Bureau, can take to help guard against invasive species threatening Florida agriculture?”

Students presented thoughtful speeches highlighting the importance of cooperation, education and prevention efforts to protect Florida’s agricultural industry from invasive species.

Judges Maddie Carte, Lawanna Gaylard and Kelly Aue evaluated contestants using a scoring rubric designed to assess content, organization, delivery and overall presentation. Participants were awarded cash prizes for first through third place in each division.

First place winners in each division will advance to the district-level competition, which will be held this month in Jefferson County.

Farm Bureau conducts this annual contest to promote interest in agriculture, increase knowledge of the industry, and highlight its value and importance for future generations.

Sarah Carte (SCFB Women’s Chairman) presented the winners with certificates and cash awards in recognition of their outstanding performance and dedication to agriculture education.

Suwannee County Farm Bureau wished the district competitors the best of luck.
