A Lafayette County family is asking for the public's help recovering a treasured family heirloom that was stolen from private property approximately three years ago.
The heirloom, a 60-gallon Chattanooga Plow Company syrup kettle, was taken from property on South Lusitania Road in Mayo. The heavy cast-iron kettle, which measures approximately 51 inches across and bears a stamped "60," has been in the Snider family for generations.
Andrew Snider said the kettle was inherited from his father, John William Snider, who acquired it in the early 1950s. He said the kettle played an essential role on the family farm, where it was used to make cane syrup
