Laws regarding concealed carry vary from state to state, and those laws are subject to change. If you take advantage of concealed carry, staying up-to-date on gun laws nationwide is essential.
You may already stay updated on the concealed carry laws in your own state, but have you considered the laws of states or U.S. territories you may travel to? Each one has its own laws regarding concealed carry, and to avoid illegally carrying your gun or other weapon, you must check that your Florida permit allows you to carry in the state you are visiting and that you comply with any restrictions that may apply in the state.
According to U.S. Concealed Carry Association, concealed carry in Florida is legal for residents with a Concealed Weapon License (CWL) or non-residents with a concealed carry permit from a state that Florida has a reciprocity agreement with. CWLs can typically be applied for or renewed at an authorized tax collector office or a Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services regional office.
Concealed carry is permitted with a Florida CWL in Delaware and Nevada. Constitutional carry is also permitted in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming.
Concealed carry with a Florida CWL is permitted with additional restrictions in Colorado, Michigan, North Carolina, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Concealed carry is not permitted with a Florida CWL in California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island and Washington.
Though this is the latest information available, it is your responsibility to always do your research before you travel. Check for updated guidelines and learn about any specific restrictions that must be complied with at travel destinations.
