Southern Baptist Convention votes against same-sex marriage

During the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention on Tuesday, June 10, in Dallas, Texas, delegates passed a resolution seeking to ban same-sex marriages.
The wide-ranging resolution calls for the “overturning of laws and court rulings, including Obergefell v. Hodges, that defy God’s design for marriage and family.” A reversal of Obergefell wouldn’t in and of itself be a ban. Many consider the resolution as a “first step” to overthrow the law which has been in effect since 2015, following the Supreme Court’s ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges.
