Today in the North Central Florida Region, there are 201 licensed foster homes across 13 counties. There is a need for an additional 65 homes to assure that every child that enters the foster care system receives the individualized care and support that they deserve. Good foster families, just like all families, come in all different shapes and sizes. From the individual in their late 20s with the energy of youth to the retiree with extra time, we are looking for individuals and couples who are willing to say yes to becoming a foster parent.
“Each day, children and teens are removed from everything familiar and enter foster care,” said Ginger Griffeth, CEO of Partnership for Strong Families. “In those moments, what they need the most is a safe, loving home – a place of comfort and stability – while their parents work hard alongside PSF to heal and make the changes needed to bring their children home safely.”
PSF has a team of dedicated professionals tasked with recruiting new foster parents and providing the support that foster parents need. PSF ensures that foster parents are an integral part of the child welfare process and receive the support and recognition they deserve. “Foster parents are the heart of child welfare,” said Carol Tuh, Chief of Placement and Caregiver Support. “They step up to open their home and their hearts to serve children in a most incredible way. The difference foster families can make in the life of a child is immeasurable.”
Throughout the month of May, PSF is offering several opportunities for individuals and families interested in fostering. There are three online info sessions scheduled. They will be held on Thursday, May 15, Wednesday, May 21 and Tuesday, May 27. More information can be found on www.pfsf.org or by contacting PSF at HopePartner@pfsf.org or (352) 244-1615.
