Sheriffs advise public on legal open carry areas amid court ruling

The sheriffs in Hamilton, Lafayette and Suwannee Counties joined the chorus of several sheriffs' offices and police departments across the state in announcing their decision to no longer enforce the open carry ban.
The announcement came shortly after the McDaniels v. State decision made by the Florida Supreme Court on Wednesday, Sept. 10, which ruled the law unconstitutional. Once the decision was announced, Sheriff Michelle Cook of Clay County and Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith were the first sheriffs to announce they would no longer enforce the law.
