Due to impending severe cold weather impacting the Suwannee River Valley, school closures have been announced for the area. According to the Florida Division of Emergency Management, winter rain expected on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and Wednesday, Jan. 22 could bring slippery and hazardous road conditions across North Florida.
The following schools have issued weather-related information:
Hamilton County School District: A special announcement by Superintendent Dorothy Zamora declared all schools in the Hamilton County School District will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22, due to the severe weather. School will remain in regular session on Tuesday, Jan. 21. However, there will be no after school activities.
Hamilton County schools will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 23, and a makeup day has been scheduled for Monday, April 21, due to the missed day.

Suwannee County School District: As of Tuesday morning, Jan. 21, the Suwannee County School District (SCSD) has announced all schools within the district will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Schools will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 23.

Lafayette County School District: Lafayette County School Superintendent Robby Edwards announced on Sunday, Jan. 19, that schools in Lafayette County will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The district will continue to monitor the weather to determine if it will be safe for students to return on Thursday, Jan. 23.
Additionally, Edwards shared that students should be prepared for severe cold to come through Lafayette County, with a 40 percent to 50 percent chance of freezing rain or snow to impact the county on Wednesday.
