Scam alert: AI generated voices used to bilk money

Don't trust your ears. Remember, when someone is calling on the phone, you don't really know who it is. A woman in the Tampa area was recently fooled when she picked up the phone and heard an artificially intelligent (AI) reproduction of her daughter's voice sobbing into the phone.
For a moment, the loving mother heard a person panicking and weeping, certain she recognized her grown daughter's cry. Her "daughter" claimed that while texting and driving, she had hit a pregnant woman and had been arrested and needed her mom's help.
