Save our homes from excessive property taxes

On June 2, 2026, the Florida Legislature passed HJR1 to amend the state constitution which could drastically reduce property taxes on homestead property. While I applaud the intent, I am concerned about the overall effect. Homestead property accounts for 46% of the market value and 36% of the taxable value of all real property in Florida, according to the Tax Foundation. I don't have a solution to all the potential problems an amendment could cause, but I have a suggestion. How about aggressively getting the lying cheats off the tax roll that are committing fraud by claiming a homestead exemption when they are not entitled to it?
