San Marco Chamber Music Society performs in Live Oak

Live classical performances continue in Live Oak as the Friends of Music concert series presents the San Marco Chamber Music Society on Monday, Sept. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Covenant First Presbyterian Church, located at 421 White Ave.

The San Marco Chamber Music Society was formed in 2008 by Eric and Ellen Olson, long-standing members of the Jacksonville Symphony. They invited other musicians from the symphony and local university faculty and started with a three-concert season. It has now expanded to six concert programs per year with 15 public performances each season, all free and open to the public. They have featured a varied and eclectic mix of programming, including tuba, woodwinds, trumpet, strings, organ, harp and percussion.

The Live Oak concert will feature piano, oboe, viola, flute and clarinet. This concert is also free and open to the public. A reception follows, where concertgoers may meet the performers.

Future Friends of Music concerts for the 2026-27 Season include The Orbit Flute Ensemble from FSU at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14; classical guitarist Raley Beggs at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 20; and The University of North Florida Chamber Singers, directed by Dr. Cara Tasher, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 16. All of these concerts are free and open to the public, and a reception follows.

The public is also invited to:

1) A Christmas Service of Lessons and Carols at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20. This service includes readings, anthems by a choir led by Bill Poplin, and carols by the congregation.

2) A Good Friday Service of Darkness at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 26.

All concerts and services are held at Covenant First Presbyterian Church, located at 421 White Ave., in Live Oak.
