A benefit ride is being held in support of Wyatt Sasser, a Live Oak man who was in an early morning single motorcycle accident in Gainesville on Friday, Jan. 1. For an unknown reason, Sasser's motorcycle went off the road and struck a road sign. He was air lifted to Shands UF, where he has remained in the critical care unit since. Sasser has undergone multiple operations over the past month. The event, "Ride for the Sasser," is being held to raise money for Sasser's medical bills and support his wife, SueAnn and his young daughters Lyla and Lilly, while he's out of work.
"Ride for the Sasser" welcomes both motorcycles and cars and will take place on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the County Line Bar, located at 9634 W US Hwy 90 in Lake City. Vehicles will line up at the County Line Bar, then travel to: Little Bar, located at 205 Conner St. NW, in Live Oak; Billy Bon's, located at 10922 NW US-41, in White Springs; Odell's Saloon, located at 1407 SE Baya Dr., in Lake City and return to County Line Bar.
Gates open for the event at 10 a.m., with a breakfast of $3 sausage dogs, coffee and bloody Marys and the ride begins at 11:30 a.m. The price to ride in the event, for both motorcycles and cars, is $15 per vehicle, plus an additional $5 per passenger. Cars will be riding behind the bikes. At the end of the route, lunch will be available at the County Line Bar at 3 p.m. Meals include: $8 chicken, pulled pork, sausage and sides; $7 BBQ plates and a $3 bloody Mary bar.
In addition to the ride and meals, a horseshoe tournament, 8-ball tournament, raffle, car show and auction will also take place at the County Line Bar. Each event takes place after the initial ride, with the tournaments and raffle having a 50-50 payout. The horseshoe tournament will take place at 3:30 p.m., while sign-up for the 8-ball pool tournament will be at 7 p.m. and the first match will take place at 7:30 p.m. The price to participate in each tournament is $10, while raffle tickets are $50 for the "best hand" and $10 for the "worst hand."
Prizes include gift certificates to restaurants and other local businesses, among other items. If any businesses would like to donate a prize to the raffle, they can get in touch with Nick Orr at (386) 688-0027.
