Many civilians consider all military service personnel as heroes. However, ask any Veteran, regardless of their accomplishments, who deserves to be considered a hero, and their answers are always the same: “The real heroes are those who didn’t come home.”
By far, the war that saw the most soldiers never return home was the Civil War, with between 620,000 and 750,000 deaths according to History.net. These devastating numbers are attributed to several factors, including new technologies, disease, poor sanitation and primitive medicine.
