A proposed bill to dissolve the Town of White Springs will be discussed and voted on during the annual Hamilton County delegation meeting on Monday, Feb. 10. The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. in the Hamilton County Courthouse, located at 207 NE 1st St., in Jasper.
The proposal, presented by Senator Corey Simon and Representative Jason Shoaf, seeks to dissolve the municipality.
"This town has had many issues and I believe that there comes a time when we have to step up and make some serious decisions for what is best for the citizens," Representative Shoaf said.
The discussion will be part of the broader delegation agenda. Residents are encouraged to attend and voice their opinions on the matter.
CLARIFICATION:Â Dissolution would only affect the local government. This means the White Springs Town Council would be removed as the governing body, and control would be transferred to Hamilton County. White Springs would then become an unincorporated town similar to Wellborn, McAlpin, O'Brien, Dowling Park and Day.
