Here’s a great opportunity for poets, spoken-word artists, emcees and rappers to participate in the North Central Florida Youth Poet Laureate (YPL) Program. This program aims to identify young poets who excel in poetry, creative writing, spoken-word performance, academics, community service and social activism. To be eligible to apply, applicants must be between the ages of 13 and 18 and either live in or attend school in one of the following counties: Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Columbia, Clay, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Putnam, Suwannee, Taylor and Union Counties. The winner of the North Central Florida YPL will qualify to compete as North Central Florida’s representative in the National YPL Contest. Applications are due by Saturday, March 1.
