New law requires additional driver’s education for Florida teens

Beginning on Tuesday, July 1, a new Florida law will require students between the ages of 14 and 17 to complete both a Driver’s Education course and the four-hour Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course before they can obtain a learner’s permit.
However, students who complete the TLSAE course prior to July 1 will be exempt from the new Driver’s Education requirement.
The TLSAE course is mandated for all first-time driver’s license applicants regardless of age. It provides education on Florida traffic laws, the effects of alcohol and drug use, and responsible driving behavior. Completion of the course is r
