Through the frigid temperatures, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade marched on, honoring the late Civil Rights leader. The parade was one of a few events that happened throughout the day, organized by the Suwannee County MLK Committee. A church service at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, a luncheon and a festival at Paul Langford Stadium followed the day. The parade began shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, as the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office and the Live Oak Police Department escorted the participants from RIVEROAK Technical College to Paul Langford Stadium, through the heart of downtown Live Oak. Participants included local civic, non-profit, and business organizations, as well as local schools throughout Suwannee County. Ivey Funeral Home and Marcus Allen Funeral Home also participated in the parade. When the parade concluded, a special church service took place at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, where the MLK Youth Choir and Men of Faith performed. Additionally, MLK Committee members Adrienne Linton Jordan and Councilman Tommie Jefferson were honored with plaques commemorating their service to the committee and the community.
