A Live Oak family is reeling after a fatal car accident took the life of 34-year-old Randy Young. The accident happened on Tuesday, Feb. 25, while Young was on the way to work in Putnam County.
Sheena Rickerson, who lost her husband in a similar circumstance two years ago, was informed of Young’s passing and felt compelled to help the family by organizing a Meal Train.
“When my husband passed away, someone did it for me,” Rickerson said. “I have three young children, and the last thing you want to think about is food and money. You are deeply enveloped in grief.”
Because of her experience and her relationship with the family, Rickerson created a Meal Train, hoping that the family could focus on healing and making final arrangements. When looking back at her experiences with the Meal Train, Rickerson thought back to when people provided her and her family with food and money and wanted to return the favor.
The Meal Train has provided some relief for the Young family. The campaign has raised over $4,000 of the current $5,000 goal, with Rickerson planning to raise the goal due to the support that the family has received. “There have been 52 people who have either contributed money or meals,” Rickerson said. She hopes that more people will help contribute to the family as they continue to process the tragedy that unfolded.
“It may take a while for them to receive benefits or his wife to be able to return to work, so this will help them as they continue to deal with this,” Rickerson said.
