A 73-year-old Mayo man was pronounced deceased following a single-vehicle crash in Jefferson County early Friday morning, Sept. 4.
According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. on U.S. Highway 19 at Vita M Road.
The report states the driver was traveling northbound on U.S. 19 in a tractor-trailer when it left the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle entered the center median and overturned onto its left side. Following the initial collision, the tractor-trailer slid across both northbound lanes before coming to its final rest on the east shoulder.
The report states the driver was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
FHP is continuing to investigate the accident.
Jefferson County EMS, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson County Fire Rescue assisted FHP at the scene.
