Jhovanny Mejia, a 31-year-old from Queens, N.Y., was booked into the Suwannee County Jail on Thursday, Oct. 7, on a hold from the New York Police Department (NYPD) out of Queens County. According to the NYPD, Mejia was involved in a shooting that happened on the evening of Aug. 29, 2021, outside of an Exxon gas station in Ozone Park, Queens, N.Y.

On Aug. 29, two men, ages 54 and 57, were standing outside the gas station when a man, later identified as Mejia, approached the area and began firing. The 54-year-old man suffered bullets to his arm, chest and back, while the 57-year-old was shot in his back and torso. Mejia then fled from the scene. On Sept. 20, the 54-year-old man, later identified as Pablo Antonio Nolasco Gonzalez, of Elmont, Long Island, N.Y., died as a result of his injuries.
On Friday, Oct. 8, the Suwannee County Sheriff's Office announced Mejia was found hiding out at a residence on 210th Place, in O'Brien.
