Living God’s Way: Sojourners who obey Jesus Christ

In the first century, Christians suffered much because of their decisions to be obedient to Jesus Christ. Peter addressed a group of people he called sojourners, or aliens, who lived in a portion of Asia Minor, modern-day Turkey. Because of the work of God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus, along with these people’s own obedience, they had become a part of God’s chosen people (1 Peter 1:1, 2).
In his apostolic letter, Peter did not address his readers as Christians. He described them as “those who were aliens, scattered throughout” several districts of the Roman Empire.
