On Saturday, July 4, downtown Live Oak was abuzz. Vendors lined the street of downtown, some handing out beads and wristbands, while others walked around handing out fans to help attendees beat the heat.
Live Oak Mayor Frank Davis opened the evening’s festivities by greeting everyone. He then introduced Suwannee County Commissioner Clyde Fleming to read a proclamation. The joint proclamation between the city and the county honored those who had served in the military in a medical capacity. After reading the proclamation, Mayor Davis invited those who had served to come to the front. There, he thanked the Veterans for their service. They then were given a chance to speak and talk about their service in the military.
After the honoring of the Veterans, attention turned to the street for the highlight of the celebration: the Living Timeline Parade. At 7 p.m., Paul Revere led the way. What followed was a walking timeline, as each person dressed in different historical garb throughout American history, showing the famous eras and people throughout the history of the United States.
After the parade, attendees were able to browse through the vendors while waiting for the penultimate moment of every Fourth of July celebration. The fireworks shot off at 9 p.m. for everyone gathered to enjoy celebration 250 years of American independence.
