I would like to spread the word about benefits of the Florida Retired Educators Association (FREA). Since I am the new District Three Director, I would like to see people in Suwannee and Lafayette Counties reap the benefits available to them. Our website—frea.org—lists opportunities for scholarships for both current classroom teachers and high school seniors pursuing a degree in education. We also have a fifth-grade essay contest and various projects throughout the year to share books and school supplies with our children. At our six meetings during each school year, we hear informative speakers, plan our community projects, and enjoy fun and fellowship. Anyone who retired from a school board—janitors, aides, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, secretaries, teachers and administrators—may join. FREA member benefits include access to discounts, financial planning advice, and advocacy to protect our retirement pensions.
