The Lafayette County School Board met for its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
The meeting began with Superintendent Robbie Edwards recognizing the district’s Students of the Month. Each student was nominated by their teacher for their growth in the classroom, their exemplary character traits, and for embodying what it means to be a Hornet. Each selected Student of the Month received a notebook, a certificate of achievement, and a card allowing them free entry into the district’s sporting events.

The following students were recognized as the district’s Students of the Month for February:
- Emma Colwell, Lafayette Elementary School, grades kindergarten through second
- Adelynn Posada, Lafayette Elementary School, grades third through fifth
- Jesus Ramirez, Lafayette High School’s middle school grades
- Isaac Watkins, Lafayette High School

The school board then recognized the district’s Teacher of the Year, Jerod Brock, and the School-Related Employee of the Year, Amy Skillman.
Following these recognitions, the board adopted the meeting agenda and approved the minutes from the previous meeting. No consent items were listed, so the meeting continued with the evening’s action items.

As part of action items, the board approved multiple agreements, including a Quest Lab agreement, a service agreement with Uniti Solutions, and an exceptional student education (ESE) special transportation agreement with EverDriven Technologies, LLC. The board also approved fundraiser requests, including a Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) raffle, and the removal of the COVID-19 virtual meeting policy from the School Board Policy Manual.
A public hearing was held at 6:30 p.m., during which the board approved several policy revisions and additions. Approved policy updates included revisions to the School Food Service Program Policy and Funds and Purchasing Policies and Bidding, as well as the adoption of a new policy addressing public participation at board meetings. The board also approved textbooks and instructional materials and received public input regarding a potential change to school start times.

In addition, the board approved a personnel item added by addendum: the resignation of Tara Del Toro from Lafayette Elementary School as a food service worker.
Following a few final updates from Superintendent Edwards, the meeting was adjourned. The next Lafayette County School Board regular meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the school board administration building, located at 363 N.E. Crawford St., in Mayo.
