On Tuesday, March 26, the Lafayette High School baseball team hosted the Madison County Cowboys. The teams went back and forth in the first inning, but not a single run was scored. In the second inning, the Hornets set themselves apart by collecting an impressive three runs off of Trevor Byrd's (#3) home run. The Cowboys found themselves on the losing end quickly, as they were unable to pick up a run in the second or third innings. Meanwhile, the Hornets found themselves with a 4-0 lead by the top of the fourth inning. Although the Cowboys stole a run from Hornets in the fourth inning, there was no movement on the scoreboard in the fifth. In the sixth inning, the Hornets extended their lead by scoring one more run. The seventh inning, however, frightened the Hornets, as the Cowboys pulled off an impressive six runs. Yet, the Hornets were undeterred, responding with three runs of their own and claiming the win 8-7.
Noah Lamb and Trevor Byrd were the leading scorers for the evening, with both earning two runs. Behind them were Garret Taylor, JT Cook, Tywan Williamson and Brayden Richardson who each socred one run. Richardson also proved himself as the king of defensive plays by completing a total of 13 outs, with the next closest being Taylor and Hyatt Richardson with three each. With an almost perfect season underneath their belts, the Hornets are looking for another victory on the road against the Newberry Panthers on Thursday, May 4.
