At 98 years old, Elouise Smith Green has lived her life to the fullest. She once shared a conversation with President Harry Truman, taught school in New Jersey, and worked to preserve the history of Day Town. Now, her efforts are being honored through a historic proclamation in Lafayette County: Grand Granny for the 2025 Pioneer Day festivities.
Green was sworn in on Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Lafayette County Courthouse by Judge Darren Jackson. She is also going to serve as the grand marshal at this year’s Pioneer Day Parade, which will be held during the festivities on Saturday, Oct. 11.
