Lafayette commissioners approve $5.3 million cap for jail renovations

The Lafayette County Board of County Commissioners voted on Tuesday, May 12, to establish a $5.3 million cap for planned renovations to the Lafayette County Jail, moving forward with a project Commission Chair Anthony Adams said is needed to address ongoing concerns within the facility. According to Adams, the last major renovation project took place in 1996 and was only partial.
Work on the project is expected to begin within the next two to three months.
Commissioners also voted to extend the county’s local state of emergency related to a burn ban. Despite recent rainfall, officials said drought conditions remain in place across the area.
