On Tuesday, Feb. 11, the Lafayette County Board of County Commissioners met for its regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting began with the approval of the minutes from the previous meeting. The board then called for public comment, to which there was no response. After this, the board called for department head reports.
First to speak was Maintenance Director Marcus Calhoun, who told the board that the department was hard at work fixing up the ball field. Seth Jackson with public works was next to the stand. He told the board that the department was working on cleaning up the area of County Road 300 and Roosevelt Circle, as well as cleaning the track of County Road 400. He also told the board that the mowing and trimming tractor should be back in service the week after the meeting. Finally, he told the boar there was a meeting in June with the prison to make it so that the county could start using inmate work again. The only other report was from Seth Jackson with the UF/IFAS Extension Office. He told the board that the Suwannee Valley Youth Livestock Show and Sale was coming up and also announced there would be a botany life skills event coming up soon.
After that, the board approved advertising for the County Road 320 resurfacing project. The next item on the agenda was a resolution approving an agreement with the Lafayette County Tax Collector. Clerk of Court Steve Land explained that this agreement happens every term. He continued explaining that, every term, the office has to declare whether it is a budget or fee office; the Lafayette office has always been a budget office, meaning that its expenses are included in the county budget. The board approved the resolution unanimously.
The following two items went hand in hand. First was a construction and maintenance agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation for the State Road 51 bridge project going over Britt Creek. The second was a resolution for the agreement. Both items were approved unanimously. After that, the board selected Lockner as the engineering firm to do the construction, engineering and inspection for County Road 536. The board then approved the payment of its bills. The meeting was then adjourned. The next Lafayette County Board of County Commissioners meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 5:30 p.m. in the Lafayette County Courthouse, located at 120 W Main St., in Mayo.
