On Tuesday, March 4, the Jennings Town Council met for its regularly scheduled meeting. Besides a few updates and a motion to approve auditor services for the 2024 to 2028 fiscal year, the meeting was relatively short, lasting a little over 30 minutes.
Spencer Nabors with In Touch Consulting Group provided a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and State Housing Initiatives Project (SHIP) update for the town and alerted the council of future grants that would be made available to Hamilton County. Nabors also briefly touched up on updates regarding storm debris cleanup.
Following Nabors's presentation, the council approved the consent items on the agenda before Town Manager Jennifer Hightower provided an update, echoing Nabors's words regarding debris cleanup. "It's been a long month," Hightower said. She stated that she has been made aware of several grants and projects involving debris cleanup and has been on top of the resources that are being made available to the town. She also said that the technology software update to the town has been pushed back to June.
After Hightower, Public Works Manager Josh Johnson came up and showed the council the $10,000 water pump that the town had to purchase to replace the broken one at the water treatment plant. He also addressed an issue that occurred involving sewer backup on Berry Street, which was remedied.
Following Johnson's presentation, Jennings Police Chief Reginald Akins requested the council purchase a new radar for his vehicle. Chief Akins shared that once the radar is ready, he will have to travel to Orlando to pick it up. After a brief discussion, the council voted in favor of purchasing the new radar.
Following the presentation, the council moved to new business, approving Powell & Jones CPA's auditor services. The council voted unanimously in favor of the services, which will cover 2024 to 2028. Following the vote and after closing comments from the council, the meeting was adjourned.
The next Jennings Town Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, in the Town Hall, located at 1291 Florida St.
