Hurricane center implements new tools for 2026 season

It’s never too early to begin thinking about the Atlantic hurricane scene, which is set to begin officially on June 1. At least it’s never too early for the National Hurricane Center (NHC), which is part of the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The NHC recently announced that it is implementing two new tropical products and services for the 2026 hurricane season, one of which is a redesigned forecast cone that has particular applicability to inland communities in Florida. The second product, concerning storm surge alerts, not so much so, as it is specifically intended for Hawaii.
