Lafayette High School’s varsity softball team traveled to Madison County High School on Friday, Feb. 20, to take on the Cowgirls.
The Hornets were coming off a 15-0 loss against the Santa Fe Raiders on Tuesday, Feb. 17, while the Cowgirls entered the match off a 9-5 loss against University Christian.
Although the Hornets fought hard, they fell to the Cowgirls 14-1 in five innings.
While the Cowgirls collected 13 hits, the Hornets finished with two on 16 at-bats while drawing three walks.
Khloe Crotts led the Hornets at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double. Clara Knight also recorded a hit, finishing 1-for-2 with a triple. Bella Vann scored the team’s lone run and drew a walk. Additionally, Pank Johnson added a walk and recorded a stolen base. As a team, the Hornets struck out eight times.
In the circle, Crotts pitched one inning, allowing six hits and five runs. Knight worked four innings, surrendering six hits and nine runs, three of which were earned, while striking out one and walking three.
The Hornets will look to rebound as they travel to take on the Suwannee Bulldogs on Friday, March 6, beginning at 6 p.m. The match will be played at Suwannee High School, located at 1314 Pine Ave. S.W., in Live Oak.
