On Friday, Sept. 19, the Lafayette High School Hornets hosted the Zarephath Academy Eagles for a football showdown. The Hornets took an early lead in the first half of the game, however, at halftime, the majority of the team quickly left the field. The reason for their leaving was one of American high school's most popular events: homecoming.
The homecoming court was announced on the field, with attendants from sixth to 12th grade gracing the field. On top of that Teeny, Tiny and Little Miss LHS were invited onto the field as well. During the ceremony, Ella McAdams was announced as the new Miss LHS and Dayne McCray as the new Mr. LHS. On top of that, Reece Hurst was announced as the 2025-26 Homecoming Prince, Pank Johnson was announced as the 2025-26 Homecoming Princess, Jack Pearson was announced as the 2025-26 Homecoming King, and Mia Negrete was named the 2025-26 Homecoming Queen. After the ceremonies ended, the Hornets took the field once more. They quickly ended the back half of the game with a final score of 43-14, securing the victory.
“I felt like we got off to a slow start and they came out playing well,” said Hornet Coach Marcus Edwards. “I think, when we settled in, we played a much cleaner game and, thankfully, it was reflected in the outcome.”
The Hornets' next home game will be on Friday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. against the Fort White Indians.
