Elmon Lee Garner has spent his entire life in public service, serving several cities as their manager and working to ensure the quality of life among their citizens remains in fair condition. However, the Wilsons Mills, N.C., native served to protect its citizens on the frontlines as a soldier in the United States Army.
Born on Sept. 13, 1938, Garner grew up in North Carolina, where he graduated from the Johnston County School District. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army on Nov. 5, 1956, during the early years of the Vietnam War.
